A company called Cut Video has created what may be the most viral pot-smoking video of all time. Just one day after its release, it had been viewed over 7 million times.
“We found three grandmas who had never smoked pot and gave them an opportunity to try it for the first time. Then we gave them snacks and had them play Cards Against Humanity,” reads the description of “Grandmas Smoking Weed for the First Time.”
Cut Video, the production company behind the viral sensation, wants you to know “No grandmas were harmed in the making of this video.” They did it voluntarily out of curiosity, for the sake of Art, and snacks.
The video was filmed in Washington state, where cannabis has been legalized.
Mike Gaston, who works for Cut Video, spoke to Fast Company about their inspiration.
“With the national debate on the legalization of marijuana, we thought, Let’s try something that reflects on the absurdity of some of these legacy laws. And, that’s how grandmas smoking weed happened.”

I’m not sure that the video will have the effect they want, but I do like that some people are working towards showing how ridiculous some of the laws are right now. I wonder if the three old ladies will do it again off camera?
I wondered that myself too. Or if they know of someone who does smoke and ends up having a long lengthy conversation about what they experienced compared to their friend or family member. It looks really interesting to see what will come from this, maybe next time it will be a Grandpa sitting in a recliner chair just smoking away with his merry self.
I’ve seen this going around Facebook today. I don’t really know how I feel about it but I think it was kind of funny. I cannot imagine my grandma ever doing something like that.
Most of the time when people do videos like this it is for a laugh but it is also about getting the word out. What better way to do this than take a few grandmothers who most think should be off knitting something or baking cookies and now they are getting baked themselves? It is brilliant.
That was hilarious. These ladies are such great sports. I’m not sure if this video has really contributed much to the debate, but it was certainly entertaining. At the very least, legalized marijuana seems to have three new converts.
What were they trying to prove here? That smoking pot makes people act like they lost a few brain cells? Don’t get me wrong, I thought it was cute and I even laughed a couple times, but are we supposed to be laughing? I thought we wanted people to have access for medical reasons and not so they could sit around and play cards. Also, why are people acting shocked because some older ladies used some colorful language? These women grew up in the 60s, 70s, 80s, I find it amazing that they actually found people of that age group that never tried it.
Many people rally for both medical and recreational reasons. Why does the government need to tell me (or you) what you can or cannot put into your own body?
