This is an original song by James Rustad called “Trapped In Deja Vu” which is a topical song about the death of Walter Scott in North Charleston, South Carolina.  Officer Michael Slager shot and killed Walter Scott, an unarmed black man, and was caught on a cell phone video recording. Officer Slager has been charged with murder.

When I saw it I couldn’t believe my eyes
I was shocked but not surprised
This happened many times before
On people of color there is a war

Walter Scott he has been shot eight times in the back
Officer Slager cuffed him after this murderous attack
Planted a weapon next to his body as he planted the seeds of hate
This happened here in America in the Palmetto State

The law is lawless – isn’t there something we can do?
Until we change our society we’ll be trapped in Deja Vu

North Charleston, South Carolina in the heart of Dixieland
A killer wearing blue committed murder on a man
Called in a false report then returned to status quo
But the execution was captured on a cellphone video

The law is lawless – isn’t there something we can do?
Until we change our society we’ll be trapped in Deja Vu
