A video of Arkansas State Senator, Jason Rapert’s extremist remarks was recently unearthed on YouTube.  Rapert laments the state of the union and the intrusion of minorities, especially Barack Obama, into the US political system. “I want to support the people that this country was founded upon,” he says at one point in the video, later explaining, “I hear you loud and clear, Barack Obama. You don’t represent the country that I grew up with. And your values is not going to save us. We’re going to take this country back for the Lord. We’re going to try to take this country back for conservatism. And we’re not going to allow minorities to run roughshod over what you people believe in!”

Rapert’s evangelical streak has been noted by locals and he has received much attention for his extremist views, including his belief in demons and Biblical justice. He is well known for pushing for what the media and opposition has called an “a personal ideological agenda” that doesn’t necessarily mesh with factual information. When Arkansas had already passed an abortion ban after 20 weeks, Rapert pushed a bill through the legislature narrowing the window to 12 weeks. (The ban was later struck down by a federal judge.) In May 2014 when his bid for re-election was just kicking off, Rapert was caught by several news sources telling constituents that 97% of Americans are “against gay marriage”. He also has been caught on video saying that “the only vote that matters” is God’s judgement on Judgement Day.

Rapert will face his Democratic challenger, Tyler Pearson, in November.
